Spring: The Time for Renewal

Spring has been here for about a week, and with spring comes the idea of renewal. People are looking for ways to improve themselves and their surroundings. Some may try a new hairstyle. Others may resolve to remove the clutter from their lives. And those ambitious types will be getting in shape for the next marathon.

This time of year can also be a great time to assess your existing website. Does its performance need to improve to keep up with or surpass your competition? A good way to improve your website’s performance is with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Since most people use a search engine to find what they are looking for on the internet, you need to make sure your website can be found by search engines and rank highly on their results pages. The algorithms that search engines use to rank pages change frequently, so SEO is an on-going process. It’s not something you can just configure and ignore.

Perhaps your website is already consistently placing high in search results, and you simply have a lot of old content that needs to be updated or removed. Now might be a good time to review your content and delete or update pages. Eliminating the dead weight of your website will provide your site visitors with the most up-to-date and accurate information, will improve the site’s performance, and may consequently improve its search results ranking.

If you have been on top of your content, and don’t have much to update or remove, congratulations! You are ahead of most. Perhaps, like an old hairstyle, your website is starting to look a little drab. Maybe it is time for a new look. Having a website design team take a look at your site and provide you with some feedback might be in order. If your site has been sporting the same look for the past three to five years it is likely due for an update. And if you have had the same design for longer than five years you might want a complete makeover.

Your website is likely your potential customers’ first glimpse of your business. You certainly want that first impression to be the best it can be. This time of year, when everything around us is fresh and new, is the perfect time to set aside a few moments and take stock of your business and your website.
